GaN Charger Buying Guide

Why GaN chargers are different, how to pick the right wattage, and our top recommendations for every device.

What Is GaN?

GaN stands for Gallium Nitride โ€” a semiconductor material that replaced silicon in high-efficiency chargers. GaN transistors switch on and off faster and generate far less heat, which means charger designers can pack the same (or higher) wattage into a much smaller package.

A traditional 65W laptop charger might be the size of a large fist. A 65W GaN charger is roughly the size of a large ice cube โ€” and it runs noticeably cooler.

Half the size

GaN chargers are typically 40โ€“60% smaller than equivalent silicon chargers.

Runs cooler

Less wasted energy means lower surface temperatures and safer charging.

Multi-device

One GaN charger with multiple ports can handle a laptop + phone + tablet simultaneously.
